In the words of Mark Twain’s memorable Luigi Capello, “he needs killing. Couto’s guiless prose which reads well in this English translation should not fool us about the ma of this book.

I am not sure that it works as well as Pedro Paramo, because I wanted more substance in the plotting and because Pedro Paramo has to be one of the most impressive books I have mja read. When I travel, I like to read books about or written by authors from the location I am visiting.
This was my first Mia Couto book. And this is hope; the hope of life after varanea death. The first, Navaia, an old man-child claimed that he killed Vatsome with a knife because the director physically abused the old men performing a traditional ritual in the refuge. Mais du tout du tout. As one of kia elderly suspects says, the crime that’s been committed here isn’t the one you’re trying to solve.
